“SIX MORE SAYINGS FROM THE KING JAMES BIBLE”

 Number 21: ‘bottomless pit”
“And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.” (Revelation 9:1)

This saying has been changed to mean someone with ‘hollow legs’ … that is … someone with an endless love of food …. a growing boy who just keeps eating and eating but doesn’t put on any weight.

The Bible meaning is a place in the centre of the earth where you will be floating in space … because if you go past the centre of gravity, you will just return to the centre … without any bearings.

Number 22: “breach of promise”
“After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.” (Numbers 14:34)

This is very much a legal term today, where someone breaks a promise. A breach is gap or a breaking of a wall or a defence of an invading army.

This whole chapter 14 in the book of Numbers concerns Israel constantly rebelling against God in the desert and their murmuring. God had promised to look after them in the desert but they had breached his promise to them.

Number 23: “break bread”
“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” (Acts 20:7)

Today we go and buy a loaf of sliced bread as we share a meal.

Number 24: “break of day”
“When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed
.” (Acts 20:11)

This is also called the ‘crack of dawn’ and ‘the start of the day’ … when ‘the day breaks’ … when the Sun of righteousness’ appears in the sky.

Number 25: “break your heart”
“Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:13)

Have you ever been in a situation so bad that it seemed to break your heart … where your feelings and emotions are. This is literally having a heart attack … your heart is breaking.

Number 26: “breathe new life into something”
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7)

God literally put life into Adam who was made from the dust of the earth … God gave Adam his spirit … his ‘life force’
