ACCORDING TO THE CAMBRIDGE BIBLE, THE KING JAMES TRANSLATORS MADE AN ERROR … WITH THE WORD ‘AND’ BEING LEFT OUT IN EXODUS 23;23

… IS THIS CORRECT?”

Answer: No, there is no error … it was never meant to be there in the first place.

The King James Authorized Bible

“For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.” (Exodus 23;23)

The Cambridge Bible Correctors inserted the word ‘and’ in italics

“For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.” (Exodus 23;23)

Dear Reader, there were seven Canaanite nations that God wanted destroyed … six of which are mentioned here … the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, the Jebusites … with the seventh being the Girgashites (Deuteronomy 7:1)

Did God made a mistake?

No. The other nations mentioned … the Amorites followed by the Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites and the Jebusites have the word ‘and’ prefixed to their being mentioned … and so it would seem logical that the Hivites should also.

So why would God treat the Hivites as a special case?

In the English language, there are a couple of dozen ways that the word ‘and’ can be used for effect.

One of which is to omit the word ‘and’ when listing topics and things, to break up the rhythm of the list.

The King James translators did not ‘forget’ or ‘mistranslate’ or ‘overlook’ or were ‘clumsy’ or ‘too overworked’ in their so called omission of the word ‘and’.

Not at all … it was never meant to be there in the first place.

Q: “So why wouldn’t God include the word ‘and’ for the Hivites in Exodus 23;23.”

A: “To draw attention to the Hivites”

Q: “Why would God want the Hivites to stand out from the other nations in Exodus 23;23?”

A: “They were the first nation to deceive Israel … and God draws attention to this fact by not making them like the other nations.”

But isn’t the Cambridge Bible more perfect than the King James Bible?

No … the opposite is true.

Conclusion: Sniff! Sniff! We smell Rome!

Rome’s Cambridge Bible inserts the italic word ‘and’.

Rome will try anything … in this case through the Cambridge Bible Correctors … to alter in any way … no matter how small the detail … to discredit, downgrade and cast aspersions on the inerrancy, infallibility and inspiration of his perfect word … The King James Bible.

Why? So they can change anything they like after that!

Rome’s mantra?

“Slowly, slowly, and ABOVE ALL, NOT TOO MUCH ZEAL” … “Surtout, pas trop de zeal”

Meaning? Little small increments soon add up to big changes … “You can come back to Mother Rome now you separated brethren … we have corrected your imperfect Bible!”
