“DID YOU KNOW THAT
A TRUE BAPTIST
IS A DRY
BAPTIST?”
Question:
“I didn’t
know there are two types of Baptists? And where do you get this
from?”
“Yes,
apart
from Dry Shell ones and Free Will ones and various other varieties of
the term …
they all put themselves into two categories
… WET and DRY.
The
apostle
Paul was once a Wet Baptist till he finds out that this is hindering
the
preaching of the cross of Christ … lest it be made of none effect.”
He
states …
“I
thank
God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should
say
that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household
of
Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For
Christ sent
me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of
words,
lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”
(1 Corinthians 1:14-17)
“So
Paul
did start out as a Wet Baptist but changed his tune to become a Dry
Baptist?
Why
was
that?”
“Well
let
me give you a modern day example … if you ask any Joe Average … who
professes
to be a Christian … why he is a Christian … what will he say?”
He
will
answer “Well I go to church and I got baptized as a baby.”
The
writer
of this article has a Pastor in Africa who faces this same thing, and
so I said
to him “How do your reply?” and he said ‘I tell them that going to
church can’t
save you and water baptism never saved anyone’ … to which I replied
‘Good
answer!’
You
see
Dear Reader, that all water baptism does is this … you simply go down a
dry
sinner and come up a wet sinner.
“Well
what
about John’s water baptism of repentance to the nation of
Israel? … and
the baptism of Jesus?”
“Let
me say
this … there are many types of baptisms in the Bible … and some
have
water involved and some don’t … and all have a different purpose.”
“Let
me ask
you a question … ‘Suppose you were the captain of one of those
giant
ocean liners, how would you go about turning the ship to head in the
opposite
direction?’”
“Well
it
would probably take about 5-6 miles and it would have to be done a bit
at a
time … there would none of the ‘turn it
on a six pence’ thing … and it would take a fair bit of time!”
“Correct.
So how does God go about turning the 1800 year history of Israel around
for
them to start to begin to accept Jesus?”
“Little
by
little.”
“Correct!
Bit by bit!”
So
God tells
John the Baptist “We have to get the people’s attention that they’ve
been on a
disastrous downhill apostasy road for 400 years … but they’ve suffered
enough …
so I need to do something to get them back on track … but first I’d
better get
their attention because I think they’ve given up all hope toward me. So
I want
you to go and tell Israel that the Messiah is coming … you know … like
a bit of
a pre-marketing exercise to create interest.”
God
says “Tell
them to fear me because they have been sinful, and show
me some
fruits that they have repented and then get water baptized to
demonstrate they are washing themselves clean from their past sins
toward me … and
that they are going to start afresh.”
Now
Dear
Reader, if you did this today for salvation, you would rocket straight
into the
fires of hell.
So
you can
see that different dispensations involve different baptisms.
“Well”
you
might say “What about Jesus’ baptism … shouldn’t that be a role model
for us
all?”
“No!”
… Christ was not a sinner, never knew sin and was sinless … so
therefore
Christ’s baptism was for another reason … to show a changing of
the
guard from Aaron being the chief priest to Christ now becoming the
chief priest
… heralding the arrival of the new high priest.
Aaron,
under the old testament, was instituted as the high priest with water
and oil …
water was poured on him and then the sacred oil was poured over his
garments.
But
Jesus’s
baptism as the new high priest went further then this … he went right
under the
water and the spiritual oil descends from heaven … the Holy Ghost
alighted on
him … with God saying “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well
pleased.”
(Matthew 3:17).
This
was the
handing over of the spiritual relay baton from Aaron to Jesus as the
new high
priest for Israel.
Aaron
was
no longer God’s beloved son in that sense … being under the old
testament …
Christ was the new high priest with Aaron being put to one side.
