“WHY I AM NOT
A BAPTIST”
(The thankless
task of exposing heresy
1Corinthians
11:19)
Dear
Reader, isn’t it funny when people sprout “I’m a Baptist” or “I’m a
Presbyterian” or “I’m a Catholic”
But
there is some sort of comfort in hiding
behind a religious denominational title.
However
this means they do not have to study
the Bible as much, because someone
else has done it for them … a sort of religious pre-digestion of the
Bible …
and then written down in a church
constitution … upon which, this
processed baby pablum can be consumed, without tummy upsets, by the
basic pew
sitter.
Now
in particular we have the Baptists.
Generally
speaking they are evangelically minded in wanting to preach the gospel
of
Christ to the world … and to this we say “Praise God.”
However
there’s the unseen fly in their ointment, because they all think they
are
performing God’s Great Commission as follows …
“And he said unto them, Go
ye into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
Now
this sounds all tremendous doesn’t it … but have they read the rest of
what
they can do?
I
doubt it.
Hot
on the heels of verse fifteen above we have some amazing abilities at
their
disposal …
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be
saved; but he that believeth not shall be
damned. And these signs shall
follow them that believe; In my name shall
they cast
out devils; they shall speak
with new tongues; They shall take
up
serpents; and if they drink
any deadly thing, it shall not
hurt them; they shall lay
hands on
the sick, and they shall recover.” (Mark
16:16-18)
Wow!
That’s some to do list … don’t you think.
First
of all, after getting saved, the believer must be water baptized
… which goes contrary to
what Paul believes (1 Corinthians 1:17) … but that doesn’t matter …
Paul’s
doctrine for the basic Baptist is akin to a buffet … a bit of this and
a bit of
that.
Second,
if they are true believers,
God gives them the power over
devils, serpents, poison and
sicknesses and speaking in
new tongues.
So
the question for all Baptists is as follows …
“OK
then! You’re under the Great Commission. How’s all that working out for
you?”
………
Chirp! Chirp! All that can be heard is the sound of chirping crickets
Next
question:
“So
if you’re not able to cast out devils, take up serpents, drink poison,
heal
people and speak in new tongues … DOES THIS MEAN YOU ARE NOT SAVED?”
Now
Dear Reader, please don’t get upset … I’m just asking.
However,
having been clubbed on the head with the baseball bat of God’s truth… a
brain
fog descends upon your Baptist … followed by a glassy stare.
When
pressed for their answer, you will generally find the following
statement
coming from their lips …
“Look
I don’t know about all that, but if getting water baptized was good
enough for
Jesus … it’s good enough for me!”
Note:
This
only shows their further ignorance of the fact, that Jesus’ water
baptism … was
not connected
with sin … but a demonstration that
Aaron, as the high priest under the old testament, was being replaced
with
Jesus Christ as the new high priest.
An
encounter I had with older Baptist gentleman about all this, ended up
with my
being accused of splitting
the body of Christ.
Dear
Reader, the only thing that I can be accused of … is having a splitting
headache.
But
adding to their willing ignorance, and their great embarrassment about
not be
able to enact God’s directions about snakes, poison, healing and so on
… they
drag out their ESV, NLT and NIV to show that
Mark 16:15-17,18-19,20 shouldn’t be
in the
Bible.
So
help me Dear Reader, here’s the confusing bit … your basic
Baptist wants to be under the Great Commission although he
says it should not be in the Bible …
they prefer it wasn’t in the Bible.
Note:
Their
versions have footnotes that say “Mark 16:15-17,18-19,20 Manuscripts do not have
these
verses in them” and such like.
“Oi!
Oi! Oi! Oi! Hand me Panadol and a hot cup of tea … I need to lie down.”
“Ah
well! We do try” (1 Corinthians 11:19)
