“THE CALVINIST CONUNDRUM”
(a
very
confusing and difficult problem)
As children become adults, they become different from
their parents in many respects … clothes, careers, habits and tastes …
but
their DNA remains the same.
Similarly, Calvinists have shed much of their
Roman Catholic parenthood … such as … celibate priesthood, the
confessional,
image worship, immaculate conception, Mary worship, the mass, the
papacy and
the priesthood, purgatory, salvation through works and true church
theory …
however THEIR CATHOLIC DNA REMAINS THE SAME.
… and that is their questions about their eternal
security.
The warp and woof of Calvinism … is the massive
uncertainty to the questions … “How do I know I was selected?” … “How
do I know
I have eternal security?” … “Am I simply fooling myself?” … “How do I
know I
have been selected?”
For the non-Calvinist Christian, their eternal
security is not an issue (1 John 5:13).
For the Calvinist … claiming to be a Christian … this
is their overwhelming, confusing and difficult
problem.
And it seems they would rather hack off their nose
before they admit it!
With only their pious perseverance to be their
evidence of salvation, it’s no wonder the Calvinist questions whether
he is
saved or not … you know … being subject to sin and all it’s tentacles
mentioned
in Galatians …
“Now
the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance,
emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings,
murders, drunkenness,
revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have
also told
you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit
the
kingdom of God.” (Galatians
5:19-21)
To
the Calvinist … these sins of the flesh are like Rhodesian Ridgebacks
gripping
onto a chunk of meat on a clothes line …
…
and they can’t seem to shake them off!
Not
to mentions the sins mentioned in Romans
(Romans 1:19-21)
As religions suffer from the heresy of salvation
through good works, the Calvinist, to his? credit … ah yes Dear
Reader …
he is very proud of that … has manged to sever that tie … believing on
the
perfect works and the shed blood of Christ.
However the ‘stuck bone in the Calvinist windpipe’ …
comes
from his lack of good works after salvation.
And as Julius Sumner Miller, the American physicist
and TV personality, used to say …
”And why is this so!”
Simples Dear Reader … the answer lies in the fact,
that the Calvinist’s eternal security is based on his FELLOWSHIP
with
Christ … and NOT on his RELATIONSHIP with him!
The Calvinist reverses the order of his
acceptance with God … putting
his internal and moral fellowship
with Christ before
… his legal relationship with the law of God.
“Oh Yes! Yes! Yes!” says the prickly Calvinist “I know
all about the following five” …
1. I once was a child of the Devil and a child of
wrath (John 8:44; Ephesians
2:3)
2. Being saved I am sealed with the Holy Spirit
(Ephesians 4:30; 2 Corinthians
1:22)
3. I am kept by the power of God and not my own power
(1 Peter 1:5)
4. Jesus will never leave me nor forsake me
(Hebrews
13:5; Matthew 28:10)
5. I am bought with the blood of Christ … God’s blood
(Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians
6:19-20)
But like the builder who built upon the sand
(Matthew
7:26) … he didn’t build upon the ROCK first of all (1 Corinthians 10:4)!
In this case … the legal Rock.
And to add disgrace to his folly, having built upon
the sand, he proceeded to fill his house with all sorts of furniture …
despite
the tide coming in.
Moral of the story:
Build your house on Christ the Rock first and worry
about the furnishings later.
Get the legal
relationship with God
fixed up first
… and the fellowship will follow.
No pre-salvation free will Christian has doubts,
insecurity or confusion with this ordo
salutis … that’s why the
opposite is
called … the Calvinist Conundrum.
