DIMWIT CORNER WITH SILLY BILLY

“HEY MUM! I’VE FOUND A MISTAKE
IN THE KING JAMES BIBLE!
CAN I HAVE AN ICE CREAM?”

Mum: “No you can’t … we’ve been through this hundreds of times before. Where is it this time Billy?”

Billy:It’s in Matthew 26:17 where it says …

“Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?”
(Matthew 26:17)

Mum: “What’s your problem Billy?”

Billy: “It contradicts itself Mum!”

Mum: “And how does it do that Billy?”

Billy: “Well, the first day of the feast of unleavened bread comes after the passover … so if they come to Jesus on the first day after the Passover, how can they prepare to have another passover? Unless it was for next year’s passover in twelve months time?”
(2 Chronicles 35:17)

Mum: “Billy, now here’s a tip for proper Bible study … there are no mistakes and contradictions in the King James Bible … it means what it says.”

Billy: “But Mum, you said I could have an ice cream if I ever found a mistake in the King James Bible. This is a clanger! Trooly rooly!”

Mum: “I understand your wanting an ice cream, but in situations like this, we compare scriptures with other scriptures to get the correct meaning. Turn to
Mark 14:12
and Luke 22:7 … we have the following …

“And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?” (Mark 14:12)

“Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.” (Luke 22:7-8)

Can you see the difference Billy? Mark and Luke say the disciples did not go to Jesus ON the first day of unleavened bread … but were simply asking where they would be having the passover before the first day of unleavened bread (2 Chronicles 35:17).”

Billy: “But … but … but … “

Mum: “I know it looks like they went to Jesus ON the first day of unleavened bread … and all the pretend Bibles say so. The NIV says …

ON the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” (Matthew 26:17)

… and the New King James Version agrees with …

ON the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” (Matthew 26:17)

Billy: “But that’s what the Matthew account says Mum!”

Mum: “No it doesn’t Billy … look carefully … Matthew does not say “ON …” but simply refers to the first day OF the unleavened bread … and that would come after the Passover.”

If you look up a Websters 1828 Dictionary, there are various meanings for the word “of” … and the one that applies here says “having to do with; relating to; pertaining to; with reference to; concerning; about.

The disciples came to Jesus … not on the first day of unleavened bread, but to ask about the preparations for the passover that will happen the day before the first day of the unleavened bread.

The Matthew account says …

“Now the first day OF that is … having to do with; relating to; pertaining to; with reference to; concerning; about … the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?”
(Matthew 26:17).

The Mark and Luke accounts also back this up … they do not say “ON the first day ...”

Billy: “Well why do the versions get this wrong Mum?”

Mum: “It’s very simple Billy … first, they are not Bibles, and second …  “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”
(Proverbs 25:2)
… and yes, you can have an ice cream.

And Billy, keep this in mind, dimwits love to sit in judgment on God … but professing themselves wise they became fools (Romans 1:22; Proverbs 3:35; 14:24; 15:2; Ecclesiastes 7:4; 9:17; Ephesians 5:15).

They hate too harsh? … how about feel vastly superior to what God has written … you know … give poor ol’ dumb God a hand.
