“JESUS
CHRIST - A MAN APPROVED OF GOD (Acts 2:22)”
Miracle #13-
Matt
8:23-26,27; Mark 4:35-39,39-41; Luke 8:22-25
Dear
Reader, have you heard the phrase about the
Bible? It goes like this …
“The
new is in the old concealed, old is in the new
revealed.” That
is,
things in the Old Testament are types, prophecies and foreshadows
of the
real things in the New Testament … but even today, we who are
Christians, also see through a glass darkly but then face to face
(1 Corinthians 13:12).
As
we have stated before, in the mouth of two
witnesses (Matthew 18:16), we have king David being a ‘conduit’, a
‘connection’
if you will, between the God LORD JEHOVAH the “I AM
THAT I AM”
and the Lord Jesus Christ the “I AM” … of
course both
being one and the same (Hebrews 1:8; …
with
the time difference between what David writes about the LORD and the
Lord,
being about 1,000 years (2 Peter 3:8). This connection being unsolvable
for the
Sadducee with the conundrum of “How can Christ be David’s son?” (Luke
20:41).
The
Psalmist king David pens the following about
seamen who go to sea and the weather troubles that befall them … and
who
rescues them? … the ‘I AM THAT I AM’ LORD (Exodus 3:14)
as
follows …
“They that
go down to the sea in ships, that
do business in great waters; These see the works of the
LORD, and
his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the
stormy wind,
which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven,
they go down
again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
They
reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at
their
wits' end. Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he
bringeth
them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm,
so that
the waves thereof are still. Then are
they glad because they be quiet; so he
bringeth them unto their desired haven.” (Psalm 107:23-26,27-39)
“And
the
same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass
over unto
the other side. … And there arose a great storm of wind,
and the
waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was
in the
hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake
him,
and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And
he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace,
be
still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And
he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye
have no faith?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What
manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
(Mark
4:35-38,39-41)
Don’t
the two accounts look similar? The astute Jew
should be saying “Well how about that! God of the Old Testament is
Jesus Christ
of the New Testament!”
Question:
By
the way Dear Reader, have you ever wondered why
God of the Old Testament is written in capitals and God of the
New
Testament is written in lower case as follows …
LORD
JEHOVAH I AM THAT I AM
(Isaiah 12:2; Exodus 3:14)
Lord
Jesus Christ I am
(Acts 16:31; John 8:58)
Answer:
Although
these two are one (1 John 5:7), God is
a Spirit (John 4:24) while Christ is in the flesh having
made
himself a little lower than the angels (Hebrews 2:7) …and of no
reputation
(Philippians 2:6).
Therefore
CAPITALS are for God the Father in
heaven … being ‘more important’ and lower case for Christ the
Son on
earth.
SIX
POINTS:
1.
Although Satan
is the god of this world … that is man’s system that operates
on the
earth (2 Corinthians 4:4), Christ is still the God of the earth
(Genesis 1:1; John 1:1; Colossians 1:16). This miracle shows that
Christ, being
the creator (Colossian 1:16-17), holds sway over the elements of wind
and
water, and in his command of them … and not Satan. The weather is not
the
preserve of Satan … and cataclysmic events are not caused by
him.
2. David’s
description has the LORD God delivering troubled seamen with
the
following phrase “… he bringeth them unto their desired haven.”
(Psalm
107:30) while Mark has Christ, the Lord God, saying “… let
us
pass over unto the other side.” (Mark 4:35) … both
being a
description in the physical. Yes, The LORD and the Lord safely deliver
troubled
seamen to their physical destinations.
3. In
addition, and spiritually speaking, The LORD, being in the form of the
Lord, will
deliver the saints of the Old and New Testaments (Ephesian 4:8), not
only unto
their temporary havens here on earth, but into their
eventual
homes of heaven.
4.
Furthermore,
we read in the two accounts …
“Then are
they glad because they be quiet …” (Psalm
107:30)
“… and
there was a great calm.” (Matthew
8:26)
with both
accounts being a physical description of
their spiritual eternal rest in heaven.
5. In
conclusion Dear Reader, these two accounts of troubled seamen in the
Psalms and
the gospels, show that God the LORD JEHOVAH is one and the same
as God
the Lord Jesus Christ (1 John 5:7-8).
6.
Indeed,
Christ confounds, and silences, the Sadducees with the “How can Christ
be
David’s son?” conundrum as follows …
“And
he said unto them, How say they that Christ
is David's son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The
LORD
said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, … David
therefore calleth him
Lord, how is he then his son?” (Luke 20:41-42, 44).
Good
studying Dear Reader (2 Timothy 2:15).
