There is
only one mention in the Old
Testament of the word “fever”, and that is in the 28th
chapter of
Deuteronomy dealing with blessing and cursing.
“The LORD
shall smite thee with a consumption,
and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an
extreme
burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and
with mildew;
and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.” (Deuteronomy 28:22) Israel
knew their God could, and did, smite them with fever from time to
time.
1.
Peter
had a house, a wife
and a mother-in-law. Hello?
Question:
If
Peter is claimed
by the Roman Catholic church as their first Pope, why are they
disregarding him
by forcing their priests to be celibate and not take a wife.
Answer:
By
confusing the two
terms of ‘marrying’ and ‘taking a wife’, Rome allows its priests to
fornicate
aka marry aka join physically together, like rabbits … when they like,
where
they like and how they like … and they can say “We have not married
anyone”
when what they really mean is that “We haven’t taken a wife.”
(a) Restlessness
… fever is like sin. “But the wicked
are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, … There is no
peace,
saith my God, to the wicked.” (Isaiah
57:20-21)
Dr Watts
has a poem that describes Shakespeare’s “Life’s
Fitful Fever”
as follows:
“So when a raging
fever burns,
We shift from side to side by turns.
And ‘tis a poor relief we gain,
To change the place but keep the pain.”
(b)
Thirst
… like sin, there is this burning desire that can never be quenched.
But as
Christ says “But
whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst; but
the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water
springing up
into everlasting life.”
(John
4:14)
(c) Burning heat … Like sin where passions
rule the heart and life, the sinner cannot cease from sin. “For
wickedness burneth as the fire: ....” (Isaiah
9:18)
(d)
Consumption
(tuberculosis) … the body is consumed with a lung disease. Unless
the fever
is stopped, it will destroy the sufferer. So will sin. The wicked will
not live
out his full life. “The
fear of
the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be
shortened.” (Proverbs
10:27).
And
so Dear Reader, we have Christ, in healing the fever of Peter’s
mother-in-law
saying to Israel … “I can do this in the physical, but more
importantly I
can do this for you in the spiritual! Rest! No thirst! No passions!
Everlasting
life!”
Here
is the parallel: Until the fever of sin has been stopped and healed, we
cannot
serve others. When we are at rest in the Lord, we can minster to others
(Matthew 11:28).
