Parable
#31 –
“THE
BARREN FIG TREE”
Luke 13:6-9
The
18th
of the 28 general parables
This
time frame is broken into four time periods of (a) 7 weeks
+ (b)
62 weeks + (c) the mystery church age of about
2,000 years +
(d) 1 week = 70 weeks and is explained as follows:
#1. Seven
weeks of years is 7 x 7 = 49 years … the time it takes
to restore
and build Jerusalem from 445BC to 396BC.
#2. Sixty
two weeks of years is 62 x 7 = 434 years … the time
from the
building of Jerusalem in 396BC to Christ being cut off at the cross in
32AD.
#3. The
church age of approximately 2,000 years
#4. One
week of years is 1 x 7 = 7 years … this is the seven
years of
tribulation of God’s wrath upon the earth, that takes place after the
rapture …
called Daniel’s 70th week.
Luke
13:6-9
He spake
also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted
in his vineyard;
and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto
the
dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come
seeking
fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth
it the
ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this
year also,
till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear
fruit,
well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
certain
man = God the
Father
fig tree = Israel
is known by the olive
and the fig tree. The fig is used by God when detecting Israel’s
fruit.
The olive tree represents the Spirit of God, the oil.
vineyard = Israel
the
dresser
of the vine = Jesus
Christ
cumbereth
= hampered, hindered, obstructed,
burdened, takes up space, useless
dig
and dung it
= Jesus preached, healed and fed people
cut
it down
= this was not uproot the plant
… to pull it out of the ground. Christ was a man of sorrows being
constantly
rejected and disappointed with Israel bearing no fruit (John 5:40).
Lesson:
People
misread and misunderstand this as
they do with the passage in Romans, thinking that this is the same as
being
eternally lost (Romans 11:17) … for both Christians and Israel.
Christ
is coming back for Israel in
Revelation chapter 19 … the branches have been cut off but the root is
still
there (1 Kings 8:57; Psalm 27:9; Hebrews 13:5) … they have NOT
been cast
away forever.
Christ
poured out his life, his everything,
for Israel, but they would not come to him to have life.
