“THE
41 PARABLES OF JESUS CHRIST”
28
general and 13 kingdom of heaven parables
Parable #4 - “NEW CLOTH ON OLD GARMENTS”
Matthew 9:16; Mark 2:21; Luke 5:36
The 4th general parable of 28
In
445BC, with one Bible week equating to seven years (a prophetic
year being 360 days), God commanded that seventy weeks each of 7
years, would be determined upon Israel, that is … 70 weeks x 7
years = 490 years (Daniel 9:24-27).
This
time frame is broken into four time periods of (a) 7 weeks + (b)
62 weeks + (c) the mystery church age of about 2,000 years +
(d) 1 week = 70 weeks and is explained as follows:
#1. Seven
weeks of years is 7 x 7 = 49 years … the time it takes to restore
and build Jerusalem from 445BC to 396BC.
#2. Sixty
two weeks of years is 62 x 7 = 434 years … the time from the
building of Jerusalem in 396BC to Christ being cut off at the cross in 32AD.
#3. The
church age of approximately 2,000 years
#4. One
week of years is 1 x 7 = 7 years … this is the seven years of
tribulation of God’s wrath upon the earth, that takes place after the rapture …
called Daniel’s 70th week.
The following Timeline will help (not
drawn to scale):
DANIEL 9:24-27
“NEW CLOTH ON OLD GARMENTS”
“And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth
(seweth) a piece of a new garment upon an old;
if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was
taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.” (Luke 5:36)
This parable is used to explain the new
dispensation of Christ as the new high priest … the new garment … that now
replaces the old high priesthood of Aaron … the old garment.
Under the old testament we have Aaron being
installed as the old high priest as follows:
1. Aaron being
anointed with oil and baptised with water (Exodus 29:7,
21;
Exodus 40:12-13).
Under the new testament we have Christ being
installed as the new high priest as follows:
2. God himself, Christ, being anointed by God with oil and
baptised with water … the oil being the descending ‘dove’ Spirit of God
(Matthew 3:16-17).
And being the fulfilment of prophecy,
the scriptures have God the Father speaking to God the Son …
“Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness
above thy fellows.” (Psalm 45:7)
“Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity;
therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness
above thy fellows.” (Hebrews 1:9)
Who are these fellows? They are the
Aaronic priesthood under Moses.
So we have … Christ being God
himself manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) and anointed by God and Christ
being God forgiving sins (Mark 2:7).
This meant the Jews would no longer be
going to the old high priest, Aaron, for forgiveness of sin.
Secondly the rules and regulations of
619 laws under the old testament were being replaced by the new Constitution
having news laws, that, being the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).
And Christ brings new meaning to his new
dispensation as follows:
“The new dispensation that I bring you, will be
this, that I, Christ, will fulfill the Ten Commandments on your behalf …
that is not only complete/perform the outward actions required … but I will do
it with the added pure intent of the heart … which you could not perform
under your old regime of doing things.”
However, animal blood sacrifice will still
be needed for the remission of your past sins
And here’s the meaning of the parable of new cloth
being sewed onto an old garment …
As all seamstresses and dressmakers know … new
cloth will stay new cloth but where it is stitched to the old … the edge of the
old will become increasingly frayed and be ripped … and so the old garment is
destroyed … it will be rent and destroyed… not the other way around.
The rending of curtains and clothes
signified the end of an office or dispensation (Mark 14:63; 15:38) and
the beginning of another.
APPLICATION TO THE CHRISTIAN
And Dear Reader, here’s the dilemma, the conundrum,
for modern day churches … yes … especially for your good godly King James Bible
USING … but not believing it … Independent Bible Baptist churches.
The new cloth? It is the kingdom of God as
explained in Paul.
The old garment? It is Matthew 5-7.
This is to ignore the differences between the
dispensation of the kingdom of heaven, the old garment, with the new cloth of
the kingdom of God.
And of course, let’s sew on the new cloth of the
English on top of the old garment of the Greek … that’s always a goodie to make
sure you look like a spiritual fashion derelict.
Oh! And I did mention Calvinism?
Ouch! A patchwork quilt of clothes of a mixture of
the dispensations and the Greek … and the doctrines of grace
aka Calvinism … ripped, torn, holes, frayed edges.
It’s like putting new Rolls Royce parts into a 1965
Volkswagen … or painting a house riddled with termites.
So it of no surprise they find all sorts of excuses
for not street preaching.
I mean, who wants to get out and street preach in
this tattered garb?
