“IS THERE SUCH A THING CALLED
THE ORDO SALUTIS?” Part 2 of 3
aka The Steps to Salvation

There’s the story of four men telling each other how they were saved

Man #1:

“First of all, I realised my sins was holding me back, you know … bad habits and all that … and I’d tried various things like meditation, counselling and so on.

Then I studied Hinduism and other Eastern religions.

Then I said to myself ‘Why not give Christianity a go?’.

So, taking it seriously, I did my best to turn from my sins, to show God that I meant it, said I was really sorry to God for living my way, then I chose Jesus to save me, fully surrendered to him, and with all my heart I asked him to save me … which he did!”

Man #2:

“Wow! That sounds impressive! I guess it was a little more simple for me.

I knew there was a God-shaped vacuum in my life, that only he could fill … I just felt empty … I’d been running from him all my life really.

Then I went along to the local AOG church and asked the Holy Spirit to come into my life … I started speaking in tongues, and all of a sudden this euphoric feeling came over me … I started tingling, and felt a warm glow in my body.

Then knew I had Jesus in my life to guide and help me.’

Man #3:

“My experience was different to both of you.

I just confessed my sins and repented to God, chose Jesus to save me, turned away the best I could from my old life, got water baptised … and here I am … I’ve turned the corner … and now I follow Jesus, and do my best to be like him!”

Man #4:

“I was in church one Sunday, and the Preacher started telling us about the Ten Commandments … you know stealing and lying and stuff like that … these being God’s perfect and holy standards that no man can keep.

The preacher then said that places everyone under the curse of the law … God’s laws are pore and holy but what they demand from me, makes them a curse.

He then went on to say there are no good sinners and bad sinners … one sin makes us guilty of all (James 2:10)

Then it blew me away when he said “All have sinned and will be cast into the everlasting fires of hell … where the torment goes on forever.

Then he said “There are some people who deny that sin exists … so he turned up the Bible and showed us that if we have broken our own standards, God says that’s a sin as well (James 4:17).

Then he said that God came down out of heaven as the man Jesus Christ, to fulfil his laws and live a sinless life on behalf of everyone.

God then placed the sins of the world on Jesus and he became a curse for us (Galatians 3:13) and was crucified in my place on a cross … and then he went back to heaven.

Then the Preacher said ‘If you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ you can be saved. He lived the sinless life you should have lived before God. All your sins have been paid for including all my future ones. Well that just blew me away!

Then I simply BELIEVED that Christ would save me like the jailer (Acts 16:31). The Preacher also said that believing is not a work and showed us Romans 4:5.

I couldn’t credit it … so simple … all done … no more to say … no more to pay!”

Now Dear Reader, which of the above four stories gives all the glory to God and what he has already done for man?

Correct #4!

With the first three man, they’ve gone internally into themselves to prepare themselves to get saved … that’s if they are? They focussed on themselves …

The first three fell into the Satanic trap called The Ordo Salutis whereby the Red Herring of the Steps of Salvation get involved in robbing God of what he has done … takes the limelight off God a bit … doesn’t it?

God’s name is Jealous … see that? Jealous by name and Jealous by nature as stated …

“For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” (Exodus 34:14)

He wants 100% total and all glory and all thanks and all praise and all worship for any steps leading up to salvation … no man will take any glory from God the Father before or after salvation.

Man #4 heard the facts and all he had needed was to BELIEVE … no works, no ordo salutis … no steps to getting saved.

Like a spiritual bus ticket into heaven … already paid for … simply believe what God has already done.

And on the other hand we have “Well, if I hadn’t done this and done that before I got saved … I wouldn’t have got saved would I? I know I don’t’ deserve any credit for getting saved as that was God’s job, but I had to do my bit to show I was serious!”

Well there you go Dear Reader, The Ordo Salutis
aka The Steps to Salvation … what shall we say …
THEY DON’T EXIST
… except for acknowledging the truth (2 Timothy 2:25).

And that’s how salvation is to be preached … first the law … then the gospel.

IS BELIEVING A WORK?”
Q: “How can the Bible say one thing in one
place then give a different meaning in another?”
A: “It seems that way doesn’t it … but it’s not
the case. It is simply God’s way of confusing
and blinding the non-serious Bible student who
will not study to show themselves approved
unto God (2Tim 2:15).
