Number 18: “bid someone God speed”

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
(2 John 1:9-11)

People who use this phrase today generally water it down to “good speed”.

Christians are commanded not to wish unbelievers “the speed of God” or “good speed” or “Have a good day” … Why? They can’t if they are outside of Christ … and to do so, makes you a partaker in their evil deeds.

Would God want the unbeliever to have good days without him? Of course not!

Furthermore, it is stupid to tell an unbeliever to have a ‘good day/God day’ if they are not in Christ.

Number 19: “to come to a bitter end”

“For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.” (Proverbs 5:3-4)

This is having casual sex with any woman and the Bible calls her a whore … a promiscuous woman … a strange woman … a harlot, and can only lead to a bitter end. The end result of getting involved with her is described as a two edged sword … which is sharpened on both sides, and to a point, for greater thrusting, penetrating and deadly effect.

“Absinthe” is the ingredient in the herb wormwood, that is toxic and causes death.

The Bible does not have the phrases “fooling around” or “having an affair” as these are worldly terms that water down the seriousness of the sin of fornication and adultery.

Number 20: “the blind leading the blind”

“Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” (Matthew 15:14)

People who don’t know what they are doing, they are blind, lead those who are also blind.

In the case of the Pharisees, the religious leaders, they were spiritually blind and could only take the people down a blind alley.

One would not seek directions from a physically blind man … so why seek direction from a spiritually blind man? You don’t!

Like today, they needed Jesus to see spiritually … but they refused him.
