“THE SAGA
OF BEN TRYIN’ ” Part 2
Since our previous teaching
of the three nurses
that talked to Ben Tryin’ about getting to heaven, we find out
that
these nurses have since married the following husbands …
Mrs (formerly Miss) Copy N
Do has married
Mr Legalist
Mrs (formerly Miss) Relax N
Befilled has married
Mr Higher Experience
Mrs (formerly Miss) Law N
Grace has married Mr
Faithful N True
WHO ARE
THESE MEN?
1. Mr Legalist’s favourite verse is as
follows
…
“For not the hearers of the
law are just before
God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.” (Romans 2:13)
The key word that describes
Mr Legalist is PERFORMANCE.
He is concerned about his
own performance of
external works.
His earthly example
is that he follows
Jesus Christ.
“Do like Jesus” is his example … “I must do
as Jesus did.”
Mr Legalist’s pressure is
that he always finds
himself under the pump trying to be like Jesus.
He is a prisoner of the
law as he is
constantly labouring under burden of the Ten Commandments and the
Sermon on the
Mount … and therefore his acceptance with God depends on his fulfilling
these
commandments.
But in spite of this, he
prides himself on being
better than others and his favourite verse echoes what the Pharisee
said “…
I thank thee that I am not as other men are …”
(Luke 18:11).
He feels superior
to others.
The prognosis:
Mr Legalist must see that
Christ has fulfilled the
Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount on Mr Legalist’s behalf.
He can’t
be certain about getting to heaven … “Am I good enough?” He asks
himself.
2. Mr Higher Experience favourite
verse is as follows …
“And be not drunk with
wine, wherein is excess; but
be filled with the Spirit;” (Ephesians 5:18)
The key word that describes
Mr Higher Experience is
RADIANCE..
He is concerned about his internal
holiness.
He tries to follow
Jesus Christ … spreading
light and love to all concerned … smiling and beaming upon all he
encounters …
or that’s how he thinks Jesus acted.
“Be like Jesus” is his motto … “I must be like
Jesus was.”
Mr always finds himself
under the pump, because
unless he radiates, bubbles and glows with his high and mighty
experiences, he
doubts whether he is born again.
Like Mr Legalist, Mr
Higher Experience he
is a prisoner of himself.
He is a prisoner of
himself as his focus is
on inward impressions, emotions, feelings and
flights of imaginations
and fantasies.
Others are inferior
to him with their lack
of internal experiences.
The prognosis:
He might be getting to
heaven … he doesn’t know …
as it depends on his feelings and what his internal spiritual
thermometer is
registering that day.
3. Mr Faithful N True … the
husband of Mrs Law N Grace … has as one of his favourite verses
“I am crucified with
Christ: nevertheless I
live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I
now live
in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and
gave
himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
and another …
“But he was wounded for our
(my)
transgressions, he was bruised for our (my) iniquities:
the
chastisement of our (my) peace was upon him; and with
his stripes
we (I am) are healed (from sins (1 Peter
2:24).” (Isaiah
53:5)
The key words that
describes Mr Faithful N True are
Christ’s perfect life and blood.
He has 100% assurance about
the perfection of Jesus’
works and Jesus’ holiness
His earthly example
is that he FOLLOWS
PAUL as Paul follows Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1)
Christ is my Saviour is his focus
and on Christ’s doing and dying.
Mr Faithful N True, as a
Christian, is like Paul
who was …
“For though I be free
from all men, yet have
I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.” (1
Corinthians 9:19)
His focus is to be found in
Romans chapters 12-15 …
being a living sacrifice, not to please himself, but helping
the weak in faith and so on.
In addition, his life’s
mission is to preach Paul’s
gospel that others may simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
The prognosis:
Mr Faithful N True is already in heaven.
