Did You Know …

… the next time you hear someone say The Greek says,

you can be sure they don’t want to admit
I haven’t got a clue what the English says!”

What does this mean?

Fancy going to a dead language like Koine Greek to explain what is perfectly obvious in their first language which is English!

Surely this must be the height of intellectual arrogance or linguistic buffoonery?  What other explanation could there be?

And what a monumental sleight of the mind, that Satan could get men to depart from what they know and plunge into the deep, dark and unknown Koine abyss for clarity.

Surely the scripture is true “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools”
(Rom 1:22)

For let us quote three statements from the 1611 King James Translators:

1.       “… out of many good ones, one principal good one, not justly to be excepted against.”

(No critic will have any argument over what we have produced)

2.       “The same will shine as gold more brightly being rubbed and polished.”

(They’d had English Bibles for 230 years prior to 1611)

3.     They came to the work “… learned, not to learn:”

(They forgot more Greek than the modern translators will ever know.
This wasn’t arrogance on their part.
They were just stating the obvious … they knew it all).

What should you do?

Next time you hear someone sayThe Greek says …

-         just shake your head, walk away

and thank God you’ve got the King James Bible in English.
