QUESTION: “WHAT IS TRUE
FAITH?”
ANSWER:
“IT’S LIKE A LETTER”
EXPLANATION:
The
title is
about true faith. There are varying degrees of faith, but are
they
really faith?
Many
people
call themselves Christians … but are they?
True
faith
writes a letter and then drops it in the Post Office box … and then LETS
IT
GO!
Untrusting
people hang onto a corner of the envelope and never let it go. It’s
like they
have attached an invisible thread and can pull the letter out of the
box again.
Indeed, they can wind the letter back in from its final destination. They
haven’t let the letter go!
They are
always wondering whether an answer will come … and perhaps it never
does.
No
doubt Dear
Reader, you may have written a letter in time past but haven’t posted
it,
because you may have some doubt or uncertainty about what you have
written … or
indeed have you got the right address. And so you haven’t mailed it.
What
that
means is you haven’t done anybody any good yet … especially yourself.
In fact,
it just sits there week after week on the desk (or in your mind), and
is like
‘rust’ of the mind as it just frets itself stupid with worry and “What
if …”
and so on.
The
letter
will never do anybody any good until you cut that invisible cord and
let the
letter go out of your hands and trust the postman and the mail service.
THE KEY IS TO
COMMIT.
Commit thy way
unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he
shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5
It’s
like a
marriage between a man and his wife, if they don’t commit to the
marriage it
won’t work. So the first step, before the Lord will work, is to commit.
Faith
will never work unless we commit.
Faith
is a
receiving and believing that God will work things out … but first we
have to
write the letter of faith!
Now
we may
believe and commit, but until we let go, we will not get the
blessings
that only the Lord can give. If you are still hanging onto that letter,
how can
God work?
A story
Many years ago, there
was a man and
his wife intensely burdened about the salvation condition of their son
… was he
saved? If so why was he living the way he was and so on.
The situation
was this:
1. They were giving themselves too
much trouble
2. They had prayed for the son
3. They had committed him to God
4. But they continued to pull on
that invisible cord of their prayer letter to the Lord.
5, They kept on worrying about the
outcome and the result they wanted.
They kept on
feeling anxious about
their son … and wouldn’t let God work on their prayers. They would not
let go.
THERE ARE
TWO COMMANDS
Be careful
for nothing; but in
every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be
made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ
Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
Casting all
your care upon him;
for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7
QUESTION?
If we get
rid of our burdens to another, can they continue to press in on us?
If we bring
them away with us, having laid them at the feet of God the Father on
his Throne
of Grace, it is plainly evident we did not leave them there!
DEAR READER
Make the
following a test of your prayers.
If after
committing anything to God, you can come away and have your
mind no more sad and your heart no more anxious … that will be proof
that you
have prayed with faith.
But
if you bring away your burden, you can conclude … you did not pray
in or with faith.
