“WHICH
DOCTRINES IN THE BOOK OF ACTS APPLY TO CHRISTIANS?”
The
Book of Acts is littered with doctrinal bear traps … from the novice
student,
right the way up to, and including, the theological doctors.
To
wit:
1. The
book is called the acts of the
apostles and not the doctrine of the apostles
2. There
are many apostles mentioned
3. It
is a transition book … from the
apostle Peter to the Apostle Paul with his first trip in chapter 13.
4. Furthermore,
Christians are told to be followers
of Paul (1 Corinthian 11:1) as he has the commandments of God
(1Corinthians 14:37), his doctrine given from God (2Timothy
3:10), his gospel
given to him by God (2 Timothy 2:8; Romans 2:16; Romans 16:25), his dispensation
given him by God (Ephesians 3:4; Colossians 1:25)
However,
willingly ignoring the facts, Christians who treat the Book of Acts as
a lucky
dip for doctrine are confronted with a number of choices. Here are four
of them – with 4, 5, 6 being the same:
To
wit:
Acts
2:37-38, 41
Peter Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and be BAPTIZED every one of you IN the name of Jesus Christ for the REMISSION of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. |

Philip Then
Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached
unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain
water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to
be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart,
thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they
went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized
him. |

10:34-37, 43-48 Peter
& John Then PETER opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which JOHN preached; To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth IN him shall receive remission of sins. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered PETER, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord… |

The
rule of thumb is as follows:
“Get
your water-tight doctrine from Paul and his books … Romans to Philemon.”
