Number 15: “Become a byword”

“And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the LORD shall lead thee.” (Deuteronomy 28:37)

In other words … to become a nothing … you’re not even important enough to be a ‘word’.

You are placed beside … by … the words of God.

Because Israel would not obey God’s laws and words, they would be placed by his words!

They were, as it were, outside of his words … they have become a byword.

Number 16: Some days you just feel “bent out of shape”

“For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:” (2 Corinthians 1:7-8)

Also called “pushed to the limit” and “Man! I’m shredded today!” and “That’s it … I got nothing else!”

Paul was hemmed in from all sides and even despaired of life (2 Corinthians 1:8) but suicide was not his answer to his problems.

Of course he thought about departing to be with Christ (Philippians 1:23-24) but knew he had a job to do on earth.

The world’s way is simply to commit suicide … however when burning in hell … I’m sure they are saying “Oooops! I’ve made a big mistake!” (Luke 16:19-22,23-26,27-31)

Number 17: “Beside himself”

“And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.” (Mark 3:21)

Also called “Hey man! That’s not you!” “You’re crazy person!”  It’s like there’s two of you … the nice you and the angry/frustrated/violent you!” “… you’re a schizo!”

…and this man in the above verse had a devil in him … and this happens today as well. He had another spirit that was controlling him.

David was beside himself but this the result of his acting as a man beside himself … pretending he was mad (1 Samuel 21:10-13).

But when you get saved … you actually get another Spirit to live in you … the Spirit that is Holy … the Holy Spirit that lives in you … and old things are done away with. (2 Corinthians 5:17) ... you become a new creature … you get a new nature as they say … with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

You become a ‘nicer’ person … no violent emotions … more stable and predictable.
