Question: “How do you
get lukewarm water?”
Answer: “Mix hot and
cold water.”
Question: “How do you
get a lukewarm church?”
Answer: “Mix cold
doctrine with hot doctrine.”
Question: “Why are
most Baptist churches lukewarm?”
Answer: “They mix
tradition (water) with Christian doctrine (no water).”
A
typical conversation:
Question:
“How do you know you are going to
heaven?”
Answer:
“Oh, I got water baptised.”
Now
most Baptist churches would be horrified if
they thought people would go to hell because of this tradition.
So Paul makes it crystal clear. Paul
said “For
Christ
sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with
wisdom of
words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”
(1 Corinthians
1:17)
Question: “Oh! But Paul did water
baptize, didn’t he?”
Answer: “Yes, till he realized
that the cross was being made of none effect.”
Question: “So what does the word
“hyper” mean?”
Answer: “To be too strict,
excessive, over the top, going too far.”
Question: “Are we hyper because
we follow Paul?’
Answer: “No. We are simply being
dispensational which means to rightly divide the word of God.” Paul
says “Study
to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (dispensational)
the word of truth.” (2 Timothy
2:15).
Question:
“Was Paul a dispensationalist?”
Answer:
“Yes. Paul says “… a dispensation of
the gospel is committed unto me.” (1 Corinthians 9:17)
Question:
“Why do Baptists then call Paul a “hyper-dispensationalist?”
Answer:
They love their tradition more than God’s
words.
The
scriptures say “Making the word of God of
none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many
such like
things do ye.” (Mark 7:13)
Question:
“But Paul is just being an ordinary
dispensationalist – not
a hyper-dispensationalist?”
Answer:
“Correct”
In
conclusion, let us be reminded
…
“If any man
think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that
the
things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.”
(1 Corinthians 14:37)
“Wherefore
I beseech you, be ye followers of me.”
(1 Corinthians 4:16)
“If
you are
being called a hyper-dispensationalist for following Paul about water
baptism,
then wear that badge with honour and distinction.”
